Can social media help you choose the right wine?

Questions you may hear regularly  (or are wondering about yourself)

  • “How can I get into social media?”
  • “How do we get started with this Twitter/Facebook/Flickr/all-that-jazz?”
  • “How can my organization leverage the power of social media to achieve our goals?”
  • “How ___________ __ ____ (fill in the blank)

These are all very valid questions, but they won’t get you going. They can not, bcause they are not the right questions.

Simply replace the word “how?” with the word “why?”.  There. NOW we’re moving forward! Without purpose, there is no reason. I don’t care HOW my car works, but I can tell you WHY it works. I’m pretty sure this idea was stylilshly explored in the Matrix.

With that in mind, I’d like to try something. I like wine, especially when it is the perfect wine for the meal I am having. Let’s see if the people on Twitter can help with these pairings; I invite anyone who is wondering which wine to choose to send a Tweet with what you’re eating, and add #vinoveritas at the end of it. Hopefully, someone will spot it and recommend what they think is a great wine for what you’re having.

  • Example: “Pepper steak on the grill”
  • Reply: Cabernet Sauvignon, California (more details is better, of course)

Once you have the “WHY“, the “HOW” seems much closer, doesn’t it?

If you’re still new at Twitter and social media, this is a great, light way to start. Open an account on Twitter.com, let anybody follow you, look me up, and just Tweet your meal, and add #vinoveritas at the end. This way, any one anywhere in the world can do a Twitter search on Vinoveritas and they will find your question – and hopefully a suggestion.
